(One of) My Only Vice(s)

Stationery.

I love it, I love it, I love it. Ever since Paperchase apologised for their ocd handwash, I feel like I can go shopping in there again, and boy is it a joy.

I saw this flamingo notebook in there a couple of weeks ago, and it’s been burning a hole in my brain ever since. So yesterday, I went and bought it. So there.

I also bought a green memo pad. It has triangles on the pages, so I’ve done nothing with my memo pad yet except colour in triangles with my trusty yellow Lamy Safari (I love proper pens).

img_2322-1Maybe I should do a proper inventory of all my notebooks at some time. I used to be very into moleskines and I’ve got about a dozen of those knocking around. Be prepared to be amazed at the sheer volume of notebooks if I do!

I’m also baking a cake at the moment. I wanted to make French fancies, but now have realised I don’t have half of the equipment, so it’s just going to be a regular sponge. BUT NEXT TIME, I will to Lakeland and stock up and wow you all with my baking! …but not this time.

out and about, photos

Lindisfarne

I was tidying up my computer and deleting loads of old photos, when I came across a folder which made me realise I had never blogged about My First Holiday on my own. It wasn’t abroad, but to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, just off Berwick-upon-Tweed.

I know that may not sound very adventurous to some of you, but believe me, it was a Big deal. I’m not very confident with being on my own, especially in a different place, so it was a good challenge for me.

Unfortunately, I tripped over and broke my hand, but the rest of the holiday was great! Here are some snaps:

family, friends, just for fun

The Name Game

I have a theory. It’s that people know more people called Catherine than they do any other name. So I’ve devised a fun game to test this. The rules are very simple: one minute, as many Catherines as you can. You can include Kates or Katies if you wish, but be consistent. In this example, I have been very strict and kept it to pure Catherine*. Go!

Catherine Mahony, Catherine Zeta Jones, Catherine of Aragon, Katherine Howard, Catherine Parr, Catherine Garman, Katherine Green, Catherine Sikorski, Catherine Collins, St Catherine of Siena, Catherine Bevan, Catherine Earnshaw (this counts double because of Wuthering Heights, and also the fact that I know someone who is genuinely called Katherine Earnshaw).

See? You’ll find you know loads of them. I tried this game with my other sister, Nancy, and all I got was Nancy Mahony, Nancy from Oliver, Nancy Reagan and Nancy Drew.

Variations: try another name. You’ll find Catherine beats all, especially if you include Kate etc.

*or Katherine

So there you go! The Name Game.

all about me, writing

Pastures New

This is my blog.

It isn’t my first blog – that distinction belongs to livejournal (remember that?) in about 2001 – nor is it my first foray into designing my own website – my first wordpress site was www.notyournormal.com, which has my post on ocd that caused a stir on twitter.

But this is my latest blog. It is the blog I have decided to work Jolly Hard on, and give a slightly more cheerful vibe than notyournormal, which had a tendency to veer towards the gloomier side of things.

So you can expect to see more content from me this time around.

Welcome, friend!
